Books - What are you reading?
A reminder to my FList that the third [info]book_in_a_day challenge is happening next weekend, February 15 - 18. Anyone who might be interested in being a part of it should stop by!

I'm sorry to say that I didn't get to participate in the second challenge in November, but I'll definitely be on top of this one! I might even go borrow The Makiola Sisters from the library next week and read that on Saturday (or Friday after class?).
24th-Jan-2008 06:46 pm - BOOK SALE POST
Book Love
I could add more, but I'll stop here for now....

All of my books are in very good condition unless otherwise noted. Please note that mini books such as the mini astrology books or The Writer's Block are those small little books that always end up with spine creases no matter how careful you are. So you can expect that from those items. Otherwise, most of these items only have slight shelf wear.

Shipping will be media mail (except where not applicable, such as the Garfield DVD and Pimsluer CDs). I'll ask for shipping dependent on the number of books so that I can buy boxes/envelopes as necessary. Should only be between $2 and $6 depending on how many/how heavy it gets. We'll figure that out on a case-by-case basis.

Comment or message me at ashkta@livejournal.com if you're interested in any of these items. I'll strike things out as they're claimed. I can be paid via paypal (I'll give the address as needed) for quickest shipping or by some other method if need be.

If you're looking at something specific but would like to make me an offer other than what I have listed (or want to inquire about a combined price), please email me privately.

Additional Note: I also have a number of Star Trek and Babylon 5 collectors magazines that, should anyone be interested, I wouldn't mind arranging to send. If you're interested in those, let me know since I won't be listing them under the cut (there's too many to write down unless someone wants them.)

30th-Nov-2007 08:59 am - Yay, packages! =D
Books - Joygasm
Okay, so I checked amazon.com this morning to see when my second package was arriving. To my surprise it said DELIVERED in nice green letters on my tracking page. I laughed and thought: Ooh, foolish Amazon, you got it mixed up! It was the OTHER one that got delivered yesterday! So, I went to check the other tracking page and it ALSO said DELIVERED in the same capital green letters.

Well, I was confused. So I went back to the first page and checked the time stamp. It said it was delivered between 3:30 and 4pm. I thought: Eh? Impossible. Our mailman comes at 11:30am. So I checked the OTHER page again and it said delivery between 11am and 11:30am.

My suspicion grew. I had, previously, had a case of a package being put in our box after the usual time and AFTER I got home from work. Because I had checked the mailbox on the way into the house yesterday, and there was nothing there. So if the box was delivered, it would have been after that and, since everyone knew we got the mail, no one else would have looked.

So I walked out to the mailbox this morning and, lo and behold, my second package!! =D =D =D So now I've got some Haruki Murakami and some Gong Li (I ordered Raise the Red Lantern. =3) to go with my

Amazon even did the old-school shrink wrap thing. ;____; THANK YOU AMAZON! I want whomever wrapped that package to wrap ALL of my packages! <3

But speaking of The Crimson Labyrinth, let's talk about that.... Last night I got 100 pages in. Fast reading, much? =D I mean, I maybe read for two hours, tops. So, really 100 pages is average for me in two hours with a book I like.

Now, initially my brain was like: Eeehh...I don't know. Because the original text of this book was in Japanese, thus my copy is translated. And translated material just always comes out sounding...not the way I'd expect something to sound. Of course, if I were reading it in Japanese (one can dream) it would be perfect. But the English probably doesn't capture quite the same tone as the original. But the translators do their best, so... :)

So that's something I had to remind myself to let go of for the first chapter. After that, I completely forgot about it because, big surprise, I'm interested in what's going on!

This book is reminiscent of Battle Royale in the sense that it's a survivalist story about people taken to a solitary location and left there to, in some ways, fend for themselves.... And there's the possibility that they'll have to fight against people, too, depending on how the game works out.

Oh, that's right. I should mention that. The premise is that nine people have been uprooted (I won't tell too much about how, but I'll just say that) and placed on "Mars" -- not really Mars, but it looks like Mars, and I won't tell you where it is. But anyway...it's a survivalist game... There are messages and items to find and checkpoints to meet. It's like going to the Gran Maze, only on a huge scale, and with people who might well kill you to reach the end first.

The main character, Fujiki, is paired up with a female character, Ai. But, luckily, Ai is pretty interesting. That is, she's not perfect or vapid, and she has good hunches.

So...I'm looking forward to reading this through the weekend. I only wish I'd had it for our Book in a Day challenge earlier in the month! I could easily have done this one. =D

Tea - Fun Time Tea is for Happiness!
Aagh. I should have begged my parents for something from Teavana.com this year. Since I'll be able to keep all my tea making utensils out in the open as soon as I move, but I won't have the money to order things! =O

I wonder if this teapot works as well as it looks....

Of course, that's just the easy one. Quicker but not quite like the one I'd buy if I could afford it. =D

I'll buy that around the same time I can afford to be in the Tea of the Month Club.

For now, I'll stick to the individuals flavors I love. Mmm.... ^_^

Books - Workday Setup
Okay -- I've written down some possible things to talk about. Umm...I know there should be more on this outline, buuuuttt...*shrug*

What I can't figure out now is what to do in terms of taking examples, you know? Should I take some of my art or some other kinds of examples? If yes, which pieces? Should I take one of the shirts I've done from work? Are there artists or books I should recommend?

If you were having a guest speaker come into your graphic arts class, what kind of visuals would YOU like to see? What would you like to know from him/her?

Here I go! Everyone, please be thinking of me around 3pm EST, because that's when I'll be going in. *prays profusely*

Books - What are you reading?
It occurs to me that I have oodles of email at home that I have to catch up on. I was so overwhelmed by Orientation that I never got to any of it.

But in any case -- what are you all reading right now? Anything? I'm working on...or will be working on...a review book this week. More on that later. For now, how about you?
